🔥 High Temperature Fabric – Description

High Temperature Fabric refers to a class of heat-resistant textiles engineered to withstand elevated temperatures, flame, sparks, molten metal splash, and other extreme industrial conditions. These fabrics are commonly used for thermal insulation, fire protection, welding blankets, expansion joint covers, and protective clothing.

🧵 Key Characteristics:
PropertyDescription
Heat Resistance Withstands temperatures from 300°C up to 1650°C+, depending on the type
Flexibility Remains pliable at high temperatures for easy wrapping or covering
Chemical Resistance Resists most acids, alkalis, and solvents
Durability Abrasion and tear resistant (can be enhanced with coatings)
Low Thermal Conductivity Ideal for insulation and energy conservation
Non-Flammable Many are inherently fireproof or self-extinguishing
🧪 Common Types of High Temp Fabrics:
Fabric TypeTemp ResistanceDescription
Silica Fabric up to 1000°C >90% silica content, great for molten metal or welding environments
Fiberglass Fabric up to 550°C Affordable, widely used, can be coated with silicone, PTFE, or vermiculite
Ceramic Fiber Cloth up to 1260°C Excellent thermal insulation, often reinforced with wire for strength
Aramid (e.g., Kevlar®) up to 500°C High strength, good for cut resistance and fire protection
Aluminized Fabric up to 600°C (radiant heat) Reflects radiant heat, ideal for foundries or fire proximity gear
🧰 Applications:
  • Expansion joint covers (thermal insulation & movement)

  • Welding blankets, curtains & pads

  • Pipe, duct & valve insulation wraps

  • Fire blankets and fire containment systems

  • Heat shields and protective garments

  • Furnace door seals and gaskets

🌡️ Coating Options (Enhance Performance):
Coating TypeBenefit
Silicone Water, chemical & abrasion resistance
PTFE (Teflon) Chemical inertness, non-stick, cleanable
Vermiculite Boosts abrasion & spark resistance
Aluminum Foil Reflects radiant heat
Neoprene Oil resistance, limited weatherproofing
